New Yamaha FZ16-S launched- New variant of FZ-16 bike

Yamaha is enjoying their recent success with launch of their new bikes in India, their Feb Sales was up by 162% in Indian market and looks like its not all, they just launched new variant of their Muscular Street bike Fz16, the new bike is called as FZ16-S and is again more appealing and stylish.

The FZ-S will be offered in two colours - Yellow Streak and Silver Tech. The bike will be priced at Rs67000. Both the colours are trendsetters, being cool, magnetic and hip-hop. The colours give the FZ-S the X-factor which enhances the fashion statement of the rider. Looks like they have been doing research for Indian market and enhancements are very much appreciated.

This will again bring some fresh bounce in their sales. Hope to see more international technology and styling coming to India from Yamaha.

“LORD MAKES NEW RULES”

The rider’s will is spread to the handle, the body and then the engine giving birth to unprecedented torque. This force is truly dynamic. Due to minute calculations and overcoming major challenges, an ultimate body balance has been produced. The agile running performance is extremely exciting. The superior performance brings riding feel, which when you ride provides you an emotional high. Thus this is unique not only for the rider but also a source of great fascination to the onlooker. With the FZ16 you have the sensation of ruling the streets to your heart’s content.

“LORD TAKES OVER”

Each and every part of FZ16 has been designed with a lot of detailed attention and careful thought. This ultimate degree of perfection means even the slightest feature has not been overlooked. Only YAMAHA ensures this kind of craftsmanship. The rider and the machine share a feeling of oneness, and from different angles the impression is different. This is particularly because the finest components have been used in its precise manufacturing. The FZ16 possesses both a rough and brutish expression as well as a certain subtlety. This high quality masterpiece will without doubt become a rage for the next generation.

They call it Lord of Streets.

They call it Lord of Streets.

Yamaha Motors which was lagging in India few years back is right on target to get back its reputation in Indian Market which it enjoyed for many years with bike like RX100 . After few months of launch of YZF R15 they launched new Yamaha FZ 16, a 153 cc bold bike. So today I finally go hand to check out this bike and present a road test here.

This new bike is priced at Rs. 65000 (ex Showroom), its again pricey as compared to other bikes in 150cc segment but hey, it is so distinct and so bold, people who want to unique will sure go for it. We know it is sort of trimmed down version of Yamaha's global bike .. rather naked bike FZ1. And if you give closer look, its not a direct copy of FZ1, rather look like sibling to FZ1.

First glance of bike will make you to look at it again and again. As a naked bike, Yamaha has paid so much attention to every details of the bike. Starting with fuel tank, the fuel tank is huge, curvy shape and goes as high to the handlebars. Most part the fuel tank is plastic fairing and the real steel tank is beneath.

After that I go to Instrument Cluster, again it has unique layout and its colorful. May look cool but you need to pay extra attention to it in order to read in real life condition. Or may be I was not able to get use to it fast.
Coming to the front, the headlight, well clear Yamaha FZ1 style, the headlamp is V-shaped and looks like sleeping down with meter ie. instrument cluster at top. Overall, most important aspect of naked look.

The engine of the bike which is 153 cc with 14 PS at 7500 rpm of power and maximum torque of 13.6 delivered at 6000 rpm is also neatly packed, high attention is paid to the details of engine areas and at first glimpse it create a look of power packed bike. The bike is provided FIVE speed transmission. This power train was able to make 0-60 kmph in mere 52 seconds. Acceleration is pretty good and it won't give you hiccups while pickup.

As acceleration is smooth, you will get pretty fast soon but as you go high in speed reaching maximum or peak speed of Yamaha FZ16 is cumbersome, it will take time and effort reach peak speed which is about 114 kmph. After 95 kmph bike tends to feel little heavy on acceleration. But remember, they call it Lord of Streets. Its meant for quick biking .. zip zap and go.. .

The bike's engine vibrations are amazingly low and it starts with throaty gruns. The exhaust of the bike is also unique which has a loop below in engine chamber and in the end a short exhaust making it better support to torque. On design wise, the exhaust is small is sort of double layer cover which prevents it from getting it heated.

Bike sports a large front disc brake while the rear one is drum only and bike comes with all fitment as standard ie. Electric start, disc brakes, as for now there is no drum and disc brake separate model of the bike.

The rear pillion seat don't look much comfortable but its really comfortable and set just right. One of the another unique feature of the bike is its fatty rear tyre. Its 140/60 radial tubeless tyre. This wide rubber gives an impressive rear look as well as add an stunning style to overall package. Its fattier than those many higher capacity engine bikes.

While riding positing is sporty, wider handle bar gives you are cool feeling and turning is just fun. Riding this bike on bumpy road was not so smooth, may be we need to adjust Monoshock absorbers to little more softer settings. This bikes comes monoshock suspension at rear with and comes nine suspension settings, means will have fun time with playing these settings as per conditions of roads.

As they advertised, this is really Lord of the streets, be it looks or performance. Lots of torque at lower rpm makes it choice for urban commuting. A bold bike which is definitely creating a space for itself. May be more room for Yamaha in Indian Biking Industry.

Yamaha FZ-16, SIZE DOES MATTER !

Everything about this bike is huge and cool - the super wide tyres, the large size fuel tank etc…

Yamaha FZ-16 is surely one of the best looking naked bike in its class with its macho and muscular looks. The macho tank, aggressive front heavy stance and the rear view with street fighter looks will make you fall for it. FZ-16 will be powered by single-cylinder, four-stroke, four-valve, fuel-injected 150cc engine. The bike would weigh about 124 kg and the top speed will be around 140 km/h.

The mini-Fazer will feature state of the art - YTPS (Yamaha Throttle Position Sensor), for better throttle response and fuel efficiency and will be loaded with a fully digital console with digital readout for RPM, Speed, Trip and Odometer.

Exclusive! Yamaha FZ16 tested!

No doubt, the FZ16 looks like a mini FZ1. Powered by a 153cc 14PS engine,
the bike is an excellent urban tool for zipping past traffic. The slightly high saddle along with an upright seating posture means the rider has a clear view of the road ahead. Combine this with excellent handling and superb low and mid range response from the engine, and you have the perfect weapon for fast commuting. Not only this, the bike delights when it comes to riding through twisties.

Is the new FZ16 really the lord of the streets? It is worth the dough? Grab the October issue of Bike India to read what we have to say about this street-fighter.

Fuel Tank

"12-liter fuel tank with uniquely styled plastic resin cover"

The steel fuel tank with a plastic resin outer cover takes advantage of the freedom of shaping that plastic provides, giving the tank cover a powerful shape with modulations suggestive of the muscular body of an athlete.

Headlight

"Multi-reflector headlight adopted"

The bulb’s illumination and the type of light unit employed gives greater freedom of design. This creates an aggressive-looking front view and the transparent lens gives this unit a highly stylish image that accentuates the character of the model’s ride.

Front Suspension

The inner tubes on the front fork are the first large Ø41mm units adopted on a motorcycle made in India and the stroke is a generous 130mm. With the front assembly dimensions, they provide good shock absorption. The good damping characteristics during acceleration and braking contribute to increasing stability.

Disc Brake

"Large-diameter front disc brake adopted"

At the front, a large Ø267mm disc brake is adopted. The two-pot caliper makes full use of the outer perimeter of the disc to provide strong stopping power. The optimized specs of the operational parts provide a high-level of balance, excellent initial braking performance and good operational touch.

Rear Tyre

"India’s first “140/60-17” size radial tyre (rear)"

The rear tyre is India’s first radial tyre with a 60% aspect ratio. Both the front and rear tyres on this model are tubeless type that are less susceptible to sudden flattening should the tyre be punctured.

Muffler

"Exhaust efficiency, sound and concentration of mass"

To give a sense of volume to the machine, an external diameter of 35mm is adopted in a two-layer type exhaust to minimize the effect of heat on the pipe. The layout features a large-volume primary character on the underside of the crankcase. The muffler is an irregular shaped tapered type mid-ship muffler

Suspension

"Monocross suspension adopted"

A Monocross rear suspension unit provides 120 mm of wheel travel, while optimized oil and damping valve specs help ensure agile running performance and handling. It inhibits bottoming while riding with a tandem passenger as well as providing a very comfortable ride.

Engine

"Air-cooled, 4-stroke, single-cylinder 153cc engine"

A newly designed 153cc air-cooled, 4-stroke, SOHC, single-cylinder, 2-valve engine with a max.output of 14 Ps and a max. torque of 14 N.m., characterized by its breathtaking pick up and featuring an electric starter.

Yamaha FZ 16 Lord Of The Streets

Yamaha FZ 16

The launch of this aerodynamic-looking, sporty, yet rusty mobike is going to please one and all bike lovers like you and me! While I say sporty, believe me I also meant that Yamaha FZ 16 is also designed by Bike manufacturing Giant Yamaha Motors keeping in mind the rugged and crater-filled Indian roads. The motorbike is believed to shake the entire two-wheeler segment market of the Indian automobile industry. With its launch Yamaha as a company will in no time get synonymous with the youth of the country and will mark the beginning of a new era. The premium bike maker is all set to roll the dice in its favor posing tough competition to Apache, Pulsars and Hunks.

Yamaha FZ-16 mobike is set to take the generation next by storm with several unique features, while the basic design is adopted from earlier series of FZ, though. With its diamond-shaped frame, this mobike is different with its killer-like looks and originality. It can really snatch away second glance from every person on the road.

The craftsmanship and engineering feat of Yamaha is revealed as you take a close look at the minute details of the vehicle, if I have to say it’s crafted to perfection.

If you are the one who would first give vote for style, look and color, well let me tell you that FZ16 is rightly branded as the ‘Lord of the Street.’ The motorcycle reflects power, strength and dynamism from any angle of view.

This Lord of Street is available in bold colors of flaming orange, midnight black and lava red. The kerb weight of the vehicle is 126kg, with a length of 1975 mm, height of 1045 mm and a width of 770 mm.

The engine of Yamaha FZ-16 is a bi-valved 153 CC, air-cooled, Single Overhead Camshaft Engine (SOCE). It gives an envious output of 14 PS and the peak torque it can generate is about 13.6 Nm. The pickup speed of this toy is mindboggling and an electric starter will only be a kicker (I didn’t mean you need to kick start this). Yamaha FZ-16 breathes through a BS26 carburetor and is neither fuel injected nor oil cooled; but working under negative pressure.

Fuel tank: The 12-liter fuel tank is built of stainless steel but has an outside plastic cover to give that molded look and reflect the perfect dynamic and muscular image of the vehicle. The tank has integrated shrouds and an eye-catching exhaust.

Brakes: Who likes those ol’ brakes? Well my vote is for disc brakes and there is a large disc brake on the front side of the vehicle that helps with great braking power and high-end balance to ride it. If you ask me if any downside, I would say that there is no rear-end disc brake in the Yamaha FZ-16.

Suspension: Suspension is the thing that impressed me like hell. The Mono-cross suspension at the rear, inner tubes in the front, hydraulic forks of diameter 41 mm provide excellent shock absorption typical of Yamaha craftsmanship and gives all the riding pleasure during those long drives for the rider and the pillion. Not to mention adding stability to the bike as well.

Tyres: Both, rear and front end tyres are tubeless with rear-end tyre having aspect ratio of 60 per cent. The advantage of tubeless tyres are, on being punctured it is less susceptible on getting flattened (I assume you know it also reduces the kerb weight of the bike as well). Yamaha FZ-16 has the fattest rear-end tyre with specifications as 140/60-R17, while that of the front tyre is 100/60-17. Which means the balance is perfect!

Headlight: The multi-reflector headlight with transparent lens on the front side provides with perfect illumination.

Dashboard: Yamaha FZ-16 sports fully digital speedometer and all other measuring indicators including the odometer, fuel gauge and the tachometer that have a characteristic of Liquid Crystal Display for clearer vision.

Performance: It’s from the Yamaha portfolio, so you can expect a performance par excellence with respect to the start-up speed (the company says 0-60 this bike gives the best time. The running speed of Yamaha FZ-16 overtakes all with its unprecedented torque. What more? it comes priced at Rs. 65000 (ex-showroom). Additionally, the gear ratio provides with awesome agility and optimum performance on the Indian roads. It’s gotten a spacious seat, so you don’t have to worry off your over-sized butts!

The new Yamaha FZ 16 is going to rock the streets! Are you game for it?
